Description
The Recreation Hall at Huntsville State Park is the most easily recognized legacy of the African-American World War One veterans that built the park during the 1930s. Now used as a venue for wedding receptions, and other special events, it was initially the recreation hall for the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1823 (C/V) who were legally unable to use the park when it was completed due to the Jim Crow laws intended to keep them from such public accommodations into the 1950s.
