A Double Crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) rests for a moment in a tree above the main lake in Houston's Hermann Park. Double Crested Cormorants spend their summers well north of Texas in Canada and Alaska, but like so many of us come south with winter. Come the spring this cormorant and his raft will return northwards to begin its breeding cycle yet again. Hermann Park is one of two major urban parks in the city of Houston, and is a center for birding, golf, walking, and also concerts in season. It is also home to the Houston Garden Club.
