Forgotten for decades the hidden water cistern system beneath Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston's downtown core has an underworldly feel, particularly where the maintenance stairs reach into the bottom of the cistern. When originally built the pool reached to within a foot of the ceiling under proper water levels.
