Description
The sun begins to light the floor of Echo Park deep in the heart of Dinosaur National Monument. Despite being between ten and eleven am, the sun is only just now reaching the base of Steamboat Rock, and it will be another hour before the sun itself is visible along the river bank. Look across this landscape that was saved by the Sierra Club, and picture instead a giant power and water dam filling this canyon with a lake. In 1956 this site was saved, but at the cost of Glen Canyon. Perhaps one day Glen Canyon will be restored and both will be free to flow. Just south of this location is the historic Chew Ranch, and it was through this area the Butch Cassidy would pass between Brown's Park and Robber's Roost.
