Artist's Description
The monument in memory of the �University Greys�, officially Company A of the 11th Mississippi, a Confederate States of America unit raised from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) student body and professors during the American Civil War. This unit had one of the highest casualty rates of any Confederate Army, and were the unit that penetrated furthest into the Union line along Cemetery Ridge at Gettysburg. Lord Byron is quoted on the side of the statue that faces eastwards into Oxford.
