Description
North of Roosevelt Utah, the Aspens crowd into the wash where a creek flows during the spring or following monsoon rains in late summer, their roots seeking out moisture beneath the desert's crust. As your view moves further from the bright yellow of the aspens in autumn you see small evergreens along part of the slope and then grasses as your eyes move further and further from the wash where the water gathers. This area in the Ashley National Forest has been ranched in the past, and may still have a cattle lease on it, but no cattle are in sight. Along the horizon, behind the low hanging clouds more ridges of the Uinta mountains can be seen. This land was once part of the Ute Reservation, but was removed from it in the early 1900s as political pressure thousands of miles away caused the reservation to be broken up.
