Artist's Description
Life reaches forth from the tumult of war, as seen in this sculpture by Charles Adrian Pillars. The City of Jacksonville and its Rotary Club created this statue and park following the First World War, to remember the 1200 Floridians who gave their lives, to Make the world safe for democracy as President Woodrow Wilson put it. Now, as the city has grown it has become in many ways a neighborhood park, where children play, and health classes meet, not focusing on the losses of a century ago, in a world that while not "safe for democracy", perhaps safer for democracy.
