In 1882 Goliad Texas raised a monument to General James Fannin and the men in his command who were executed by orders of President Santa Anna for rebelling against the central government of Mexico during the Texas Revolution a few weeks after the Alamo. The park it is in, about a block north of the courthouse square, is also home to a playground, making for a somewhat incongruous visit.
