The City of Houston's Spirit of the Confederacy in the city's downtown at Sam Houston Park. Donated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy this piece by Louis Amateis was intended to give the impression of a desire for peace with the palm branch while also promoting the myth of a war simply about states rights. Note the 'anarchy' graffiti on the plaque.
About Joshua House
Joshua House has been described as a photographer, a conservationist, a historian, and an adventurer. Having traveled and worked extensively across the country he is currently concentrating his photographic work in Eastern Texas, centered on Houston. His past creative work has included research, writing, and photography for the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Illinois, Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska, and Dinosaur National Monument in Utah and Colorado. As a conservationist he has worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the National Park Service.
