Description
A tin type in the Collection of the Stuben County Historical Society. This tin type saved the life of a Union soldier in July 1863. As he was fighting in Louisiana he was struck by a bullet (or ball) while carrying his diary in his breast pocket. The bullet pierced all the pages of the diary and dented but did not pierce the tin type.
